Small Farm Iowa

I was raised on a small farm in Iowa; Dad raised 400 head of hogs each year.

I spent 18 months at Iowa State University in Ames, IA, 7 years in the Navy, and got my B.S. Computer Science at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN.

Since 1982, I have worked in Minneapolis, San Jose, St. Louis, Denver, Colorado Springs, Philadelphia, and Phoenix. I have been a foster parent, own two horses, and have been divorced since 1981.

I got into computers initially because I have poor penmanship, and had trouble with typing. I liked the idea that I could revise and correct a page, and not have to retype the whole thing to get a clean original.  Now, I like the kinds of people and work problems that I encounter in the field.

From 'Want to Ride' to Harness

In 1995 I went to the March Arizona Draft Horse and Mule Sale, in Goodyear AZ, near where I live. I was intriqued by the size and power of these Gentle Giants. The sweetest little filly came through the ring, and I took her home. Pusch View's Katherin (Kat), was about 850 pounds at 9 months. She has grown on me. Approaching four, Kat weathers the Arizona summers OK, weighs in at 1800 pounds, and I am still waiting for her next growth spurt (she has been 16.2 hh since April 1996). Kat is a registered Belgian Draft, and I joined the Belgian Draft Horse Corporation of America. Kat was very offended by a cold rain in October, after nearly 5 months of hot & dry!

My horses -- make great pasture ornaments.  I have a one-acre pasture behind the house with my two horses.  They have 16' stalls, with half shades. I lock them into their stalls for feeding time, so that each eats their own ration.  I take the time to pet and talk to each just before locking the gate, and again when I turn them out later.  They have gotten used to putting up with me as a distraction, and I treasure the contact and warmth.  I want to get more into driving, when I Get The Time...
