Horses at Work

Images of working horses
Thanks to Dale Wagner, Oregon, USA.

Mustang team on Hay Sled The bobsled is a pair of bronks off the Klamath Marsh which I used to feed with.
Pic of Grand Dads comine and team of 27 Combine is a pic of my granddads combine with 27 head on it.
6-up on a VanBrunt drill Drill is a 6 abreast hitch on a VanBrunt drill.
Two draft fillies Yearling is just some young fillies out of Radalta King. The one on the left was one powerful mare when she grew up and the other a great lead horse for a hitch.
Mustangs on Hay Wagon Feedteam is just the same bronks on a old wagon, box was 12 ft wide 4.5 deep and 20 long holding enough hay to feed 100 cows in one load. Those wheels stand 32 inches tall.

Dale reminded me today that these pictures were taken a few years ago, but that they could just as well be taken tomorrow.

From Dale, "If I still had the ranch, I'd still be using them the same way. ... [I would] get another team but only one tractor (for a front end loader)."

Team Team is on wagon built on pickup frame with a old truck bed on it. Leaders of a combine hitch.
Leaders Didn't see any teams working in the bighole when I went through but it was on Sunday and only one crew was working. They had 6 power bucks and a beaverslide working. They usually figure on getting 200 ton in a stack a day which seems a little optimistic to me (I'd keep the crew if they got 150).

Dale says, "Just a couple more pics my sis found."

Thanks, Dale!
